Looking forward to meeting up!
Galway or Clonmel areas would be fine.
Email me!
Brendan,
OpenCoffee Dublin is on this Thursday 9am in the Morrison hotel, if you'll be around.
Not sure I'll make Dublin by Thur - little knakered right now and flight was fine but laptop died after 5 mins.
Something really serious wrong with this machine. Wrote about its "naff" battery life b4.
Seems great weather so far :)

Would love to meetup Brendan? Perhaps you could kill two birds with the one stone by meeting with both myself and Evert in Limerick?
Hey Brendan - welcome home!
I've a meeting in Galway (NUIG) Thursday morning 1st Nov, and I think there's an Open Coffee planned for the next day in Galway also? If so, I'll be coming to that as well.
Conn
Sorry but likely 2b in Cork on 1Nov (Thur) and won't be back up in Galway again.
Would this Fri/Sat evening work>
Going 2 try n meet John Breslin and whoever else we can drag along 4 Sat nite.
Also on Mon/Tue meetup with Evert Bopp/James Corbett in Limerick on my way 2 Cork.
Then Cork from Wed-Fri and maybe Clonmel. Anyone interesting in meetup/coffee just ping me (thelal @iname.com)
James also suggested using Jaiku 'medium' and its IrishOpenCoffee channel (don't have link yet)
Lal
We will be in Limerick at OpenCoffee on Thursday 1 Nov 07 from 1100-1300 in the AbsoluteHotel, Sir Harrys Mall.
Have you tried monitoring or joining the Irish OpenCoffee channel on Jaiku? http://jaiku.com/channel/irishopencoffee
Better still, join Jaiku and add all the people you cite in your laundry list. In one snap, you would get all the connection details you want.

Cork OCC is this morning from 10-12 in the Rubicon Centre in CIT

Meet with John Breslin, James Cooley, Ina O'Murchu and Mr VmWare! last nite in Galway.
Had some 'semantic' discussions and IRL startup chat. John wrestled with bluetooth connection via his mobile on his new fang-dangled Nokia 770 device for showing AutoStitch software for photos.
Meeting James Corbett, Evert Bopp on Mon in Limerick. Bernie G and some others in Clonmel on Wed and awaiting on the Cork wham-bam meetup via Conor and co.
Lal
Glad to hear you had a good night! Probably won't manage to meet you this time Brendan - some other time. Enjoy your trip!
Obviously email me to meet up before you come to Cork Brendan. Love to meet, if we can.
Tom - love 2 meet up. will ping u.
David Copithorne (Waveson) is trying 2 arrange a get together with Conor etc.. likely Cork way so we'll see what can be juggled. Easier 2 contact him than me (as hopping around).
I'm heading up to Limerick on Thur for the OCC meetup. Today (Tue) is pretty open with evening ok and then Wed evening, Fri evening and maybe Sun evening and Mon. After that back to US.
Sorry its a bit of a muddle.
Lal
Just meet up with David Copithorne from http://www.waveson.com/
Had a great long char regd startup scene in Ireland, EI, local country enterprise boards, where funding appears 2 work and where it is failing, lack of support eco-system for small startups and apparent focus on 'enterprise styled' companies, Jaiku/Twitter filter, other startup ideas etc.. etc..
Very clued in. Heading towards to Clonmel tomorrow and OCC on Thursday. Mon with tom Raftery, NSC/CorkBIC and Rubicon - anyone else?
Lal
Well, good to see you at OpenCoffee Limerick. Hoping to hook up with you again (actually didn't realise all this scheduling was going on in the background!)....
Had an interesting time at OCC Limerick (see http://www.kenmc.com/2007/10/18/attending-limerick-open-coffee-via-online-meeting-rooms/) with plenty of good Irish entrepreneurs.
Managed to twist James Corbetts arm (see his writeup http://eirepreneur.blogs.com/eirepreneur/2007/11/lally-logic.html) to pick me up frmo PatricksWell and drive into Limerick.
Jumped in on Bernie and his crew (via Gabriel, John Jennings and others on virtual "meeting" via Online Meeting) with their online chat.
That was an impressive setup with leading edge audio/video/web-cam's. Bernie had his big "stick" (microphone) and some good discussions on recording, video-streaming and talk regd. classes/courses for young folks.
Then ventured into my "role" and remit for hopping around talking with startups etc. what I c, problems and opportunities.
After that we sat with Paul Sweeney (VoiceSage), John Kennedy (Mr WISP man) and Evert Bopp (another Wifi/Wisp/hotspots) and had some good chat and 'entertainment' from John K (who seems 2 know everyone in IRL :)
Paul had some good feedback on how well they are doing, EI dealing and interactions with larger enterprises in UK/overseas and getting sales.
Evert (http://wimaxxed.blogspot.com/) had some interested stories on his startup, support dealings with EI, Hungary visits etc..

That entry should have been after the visit to Clonmel.
Meet up with David Tynan (http://www.istighcomputing.com/),
Bernie Goldbach (http://irish.typepad.com/irisheyes/) and Brian Lanigan at a nice coffee house.
Bernie went thru his story in relation to Tipperary Institue (http://www.tippinst.ie/) and the media aspect/teaching. Went from that then to the "Irish startup eco-system" and issues/challenges and what can be done it 'help' it along.
My concern is once the 12.5% Irish corporate tax is "harmonised" across the EU (http://www.forumoneurope.ie/eng/index.asp?docID=1382)
then IRL will lose its 'edge' for the LARGE number of US companies that are positioned here.
See Microsoft's take - http://home.eircom.net/content/irelandcom/topstories/9703040?view=Eircomnet
IDA guy thinks not - http://www.examiner.ie/irishexaminer/pages/story.aspx-qqqg=business-qqqm=business-qqqa=business-qqqid=46752-qqqx=1.asp
It won't happen overnite but will have a long term effect. The LARGE companies that get attracted via IDA will not be knocking on the doors as they have done before.
Also EI need 2 readdress their focus and stop looking at the "enterprise" as a few startups that can grow with lots of staff and move instead to a LOT OF SMALLER companies that can make a difference. Main point would be to create an outstanding support eco-system (mix between Silicon Valley and Israel) for startups that gives them a HUGE leg-up and helps them with all the normal 'crap' that any small business needs 2 deal with. Take all that 'advice', support', legal, operational needs and "package" it into an easy canned solution. Then each of those startups (and we're talking about hundreds of startups not a few chosen few) can get ramped up asap and get a working product on the market, promote themselves, find customers, get sales etc..
Very FAST turnaround regarding provability.
More on this later.
Bernie had some very good points and suggestions/alternatives on what can be done (investment, taxation, credits etc..)
More on this later.
Dave had some good observations on the challenges he has faced running an Internet Cafe and Pc/Training centre in Clonmel.
Lal
Busy few days!
Back from Scotland and meetup with Fergus of Nooked fame.
Today -Tom Raftery at NSC in morning.
OCC with other guys at Luigi's in Cork and Pat entertainment. Thanks 2 Conor for organising but he had some server issues.
Rubicon/CIT later and then Mr NSC (Shemas) in evening.
Little tired.
Some good info/suggestions and insight. will blog later. Off to Denver via Shannon/Chicago.
Talks to all who made the effort in meeting up and progressing the 'improvement' needs for the Irish startup eco-system.
Later
Lal
